What is Pyramid ?
Pyramid has a base and three or more triangular faces that meet at a point
above the base (the apex). The base is a polygon (flat with straight edges) and all other faces are triangles. It has no curves. Here, you will learn the Definition of Pyramid | Type of Pyramid | Properties of Pyramid | Formula.
Type of Pyramid :
There are many types of Pyramid :
1. Right Pyramid
2. Oblique Pyramid
3. Triangular Pyramid
4. Square Pyramid
5. Pentagonal Pyramid
6. Regular Pyramid
7. Irregular Pyramid
Oblique Pyramid
If the apex of the pyramid is not over the center of the base, it is called an oblique pyramid, and the faces are not congruent.
Right Pyramid
If the apex of the pyramid is directly over the center of a regular base as it is above, it is called a right pyramid.
Triangular Pyramid
The base of this pyramid has a shape of a triangle, it is called the triangular pyramid.
Square Pyramid
The base of this type of pyramids has a shape of a square, it is called the Square Pyramid.
Pentagonal Pyramid
The base of this one has a shape of a Pentagon, it is called the Pentagonal Pyramid.
Regular Pyramid
When the base of the pyramid is a regular polygon it is a Regular Pyramid.
Irregular Pyramid
When the base of the pyramid is not a regular polygon it is an Irregular Pyramid.
If r, h is denoted radius, height pyramid then:
Volume of Pyramid
Volume is defined as the total space occupied by the three-dimensional shape or solid object. The volume is denoted as “V”. It is measured in terms of cubic units.
Volume = 1/ 3 × (Base Area) × height
Surface area of Pyramid
The surface area of a pyramid is the total area of all the surfaces, including the base area, perimeter and slant height, such as;
Surface Area = (base area) + (1/2) × (perimeter) × (slant height)
Properties of Pyramid
• A Pyramid has 5 vertices, 8 edges, 5 faces.
• A Pyramid has a square base and four triangular faces.
